Green issues, eco-travel, climate change ... whatever you call it, there's no doubt that we all have to think more carefully about our impact on the environment these days
Here at the Brackenrigg we've been doing our bit for many years ~ with things like:-
~ only changing your towels & bedding when required, not daily like so many hotels used to ... saving lots of water & energy, as well as reducing small amounts of pollution from detergents
~ encouraging 'green' transport alternatives, including the 'Give the Driver a Break' initiative. The special Lake District National Park leaflets include discounts if you leave the car behind!
With lots of healthy things to see & enjoy nearby, you don't need to drive far once you're here.
~ buying locally-sourced produce as much as possible, thus reducing food miles. minimising our carbon footprint, supporting small local businesses ... and serving delicious local dishes, too!
~ installing modern, more-efficient boilers for heating and hot water throughout the Inn
~ replacing our drains & sewerage systems, working closely with specialists from the Environment Agency to ensure that Ullswater and the River Eamont remain clean for everyone
~ we grow some herbs in our own small kitchen garden and hope to increase this in the future
~ and, of course ... just like you when you're at home ... we minimise waste, use energy efficient lighting, share cars when travelling and recycle as much packaging as possible
Of course, we're not resting on our laurels but are actively considering which of the many 'green' business award schemes might be the most beneficial for us to sign-up to.
Do get in touch and tell us if there are other things that you'd like us to consider in order
